Intentional action is the key to progress. Just working hard, without intent, doesn’t necessarily provide benefit or compounding results. Exertion can actually produce negative results and injury when done in excess without planning, precaution and purpose.
Being in the zone is when the mind, body and soul are all operating as one. You can’t get in the zone by overworking or emotionally responding. You also can’t get in the zone in an activity that is new to you. One needs to develop skills in an activity to reach a level of at least mild competency to start reaching the ability to get in the zone. You can never reach mild/moderate competency unless you’re willing to work at a new skill with purpose. Assuming the skill is/becomes enjoyable, we gain the ability to start getting in the zone when we begin participating in a related task with singular focus.
