The most common question I get from white belts or young fighters is how to improve to cardio on the mats or in the cage. They’re typically looking for fitness programs or some kind of supplement to help give them a boost. My initial answer, however, often surprises people.

Strategy #1: Don’t try as hard.

Slow down.

Endurance is inversely related with effort. 

Regardless of physical condition, overexertion will lead to fatigue. Fatigue makes cowards of us all. 

I can still vividly remember my first jiu jitsu class eight years ago.
