"Without question, the hardest times in my life, regardless of circumstance, have come when I stopped being curious, closed my mind, and held on to my assumptions."

Well you certainly nailed it with this one, Kyle! Truth! 👏

Good stuff, Kyle. When I was graduating from undergrad so many years ago, I asked a professor of mine, that I admired, for a parting shot / piece of advice. Her response… “Stay curious. Never stop learning.” I’ve never forgotten that. Appreciate the read and message.

Truer words have never been spoken. In my 77 years much has changed. The rate of change is accelerating and those people who aren’t students, whether formally or independently will be left in the dust. Look at the news on employment, many people who lose their jobs in their 50s never find another job. I suspect it’s because many of their skills are outdated. I’m trained as an aeronautical engineer. I spent some years in that field, but I ended up in a field that didn’t exist when I was in college, bioinformatics. When I entered the field there were no books on the subject because the field was new and changing so rapidly any book written would be out of date by the time it was published. My experience will be evermore the case, and those who can’t learn and adapt will suffer greatly. The good news is there are incredible tools out there that can facilitate learning new skills. There’s incredible opportunity out there, pick wisely, but pick.

"Using the world and your life as a classroom can open so many doors that would have otherwise looked like walls. People, events, and even our thoughts offer seeds of knowledge if willing to keep an open mind."

This is one of the keys to having a good and fulfilling life. Never taking things for granted. Always questioning norms. Always asking why. Always finding the way to improve and make things better, which can only happen when we consider life as the best teacher.

Very good article Kyle! 👏👏👏

I enjoy the approach you are taking with that class. Certainly, there is more to be gained from engaging with others there. Even the failing ones can provide insights. This is such a valuable lesson. Those who have failed can offer a lot of good advice and if on nothing else, how not to do things. And the overall lesson is spot-on. Never stop learning. Life really loses most of its appeal when we do so. Thank you for sharing, Kyle.

I've always believed that mental growth is a core aspect of what separates us from animals. We humans have the capacity to always be learning and growing out of life, inwards and outwards. It's a pity that we forget sometimes.
