I loved this collab so much! You both selected excellent quotes with really great reflections, so neat to see both of your perspectives. Will be reading this again, from the arena!
Man in the arena is still one of my favorite speeches of all time, ever since I had to memorize it. My son memorized it when he was 8, and my daughter when she was 6. Thanks for these quotes Kyle and Rowan.
I used to work next to the Roosevelt house (a replica brownstone of his birthplace). One day I took the tour after lunch, and it was fascinating. The thing that stood out to me most was the exercise equipment. Vintage stuff, of course. I'd imagine it was rare to have those things in a home gym during that era. It highlights how he exercised regularly, and valued physical fitness.
I love this! Not only the quotes, but the insight as well. The man in the arena has been a favorite of mine for a long time, but I hadn't read the doctrine of the strenuous life before. Excellent! I may use that in an upcoming essay! Thanks for this!
Looking forward to that essay! Fair to say you embody the strenuous life. Your essay on creativity through struggle will stick with me forever. So spot on and a beautiful reflection of the benefits of a strenuous life 👊🏻
Cage fight: Roosevelt vs Jung.
Who's winning?
😂 The Bull Moose would demolish Carl
😂😂😂
Really great post. My favourite insight: If you want to win, start losing more.
❤️👊🏻. Willingness to lose is such a great mindset for inevitable success
And definitely one that people with an ingrained fear of failure need to intentionally cultivate lol

Man, love everything about that! Thank you brother

Love this. Where was this/which house of his?
This was/is his birthplace, near Union Square in Manhattan. The family later moved to a house uptown when things downtown started to get bustling.
I love this! So much truth and goodness here. Definitely an 'I-want-to-read-this-more-than-once' kind of post.
Thank you! Reflecting on powerful quotes is one of my favorite journaling practices. Appreciate you 👊🏻

Thanks brother! You embody it just the same!
congrats Rowan
you have the ability to entertain, inspire, and educate
a rare skill
entertain:
"You’re going to die."
"I’m an idiot." 😂 (you too?)
inspire:
"In other words, you can move mountains."
"Do what you know to be right."
educate:
"In Jungian psychology, the Fool is the precursor to the Hero."
"Self-discipline isn’t the same as discipline."
😂👊🏻
