I’ve been wrestling with the concept of resilience lately—especially in the parenting space, where it can sometimes feel overused or even misapplied. I’ve been leaning more toward the idea that it’s something we call on when outside forces demand it—a toll we pay to keep going, to *make it through*. I’m grateful for this post and its timing—it’s a much-needed reminder of the value of resilience and the strength that can come from internalizing and practicing it in a more grounded and meaningful way. Thanks for sharing, Kyle!

Love your insights here Erin, and certainly resilience can be misapplied or overused. In many a chat with Kyle we talk a lot about being intentional, and that's how I like to think of resilience too, having a grounded and practical approach to seeing how I can build resilience that helps me in other areas of life. Thank you for your kind words!

Beautiful. Completely agree on the ongoing struggle in the parent space where resilience can be misapplied. Maybe a good topic of conversation in the future between someone who beautifully writes on unpopular parenting considerations to raise resilient children and someone who less than beautifully writes on resilience concepts across domains…

That sounds like a conversation I’d happily show up for—especially with someone who writes about resilience with both depth and humility. Count me in.

I love doing hard things. It's become a personal mantra of sorts, one adopted from my first days at the Naval Academy. I think you're spot on about embracing uncertainty and building in recovery time. There's nothing that feels better than resting after a training regimen topped off by PR lift or a great roll on the mats. That feeling is pure ecastcy.

The idea of embracing hard things is one I spend a lot of time trying to teach my children. It's one of the biggest benefits of the airplane we're building together. It's fun because it's hard, and because we get to fly when it's done.
